The Golden Gate Bridge |
We both loved San Francisco and spent a few days wondering around, shopping and visiting the sights. We spent a great day at Alcatraz looking around the prison and hearing about the escape attempts. I wouldn't have liked to spend any more time there though! We also went to the pier and sampled the famous clam chowder which was delicious, spent a day in the park, rode on the tram and off course went to the golden gate bridge. The weather was lovely (unusual for San Fran apparently) which made it all the better.

Alcatraz island |
We spent five days there all in all and had a great time made better by the lovely hotel with free afternoon tea and cookies! We set off on the Friday to head up the coast towards Vancouver.

Terrapins in the park. |
On the way up the coast we stopped at Muir woods just outside San Fran which is a forest of ancient Redwood trees. It was beautiful, the trees are the oldest living thing on the earth, some of them are thousands of years old. In a secluded spot I had the biggest shock as Tim got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I obviously immediately said yes! I now have a beautiful ring on my finger, which he sneakily bought in San Francisco, and we are both really happy. We celebrated that night with a subway, beers and fizzy wine!
